What if I don't want to perform?
Just take our Drop Ins! Only our Sessions aim to get you to stage. Our Drop Ins aim to teach you to look amazing. Whether you look amazing onstage or not is up to you!
I made it on the Waitlist. Should I come?
Yes! We'll make room for you! But if you ever can't come to class, please remember to sign yourself out online! It's easy, and frees up a space for another showgirl!
What is Vixens 101/102?
This is a course designed to help you grasp the basics of burlesque, find your character, and create an act and costume with a specific theme.
Are men welcome in classes?
Yes! But if you're here it's because you want to work out or be a performer, not to pick up girls. It's dangerous to try to hunt in a room of wildcats. Classes like Samba and Swing 'n Things are GREAT for boys to join in! Several of our instructors are male as well, so don't think it's just for ladies!
Will I perform?
If you're in our Vixens series, YES! But only in front of the other members of your session. Vixens 101 is your practice ground, and we do not force you onto stage before you're ready. The adoring public will always wait for a showgirl. Vixens 102 is your next step, and gets you to stage once you've graduated.
Is stripping involved?
In Drop In classes, NO. In Vixens 101 and 102, yes. Burlesque contains striptease, with a narrative (sometimes a feeble narrative, sometimes a strong one). We will not force you, but it is expected that you will go down to bra and panties at most, and tassels at best. Trust us, it's a blast.
What should I wear to class?
Whatever you want! Clothes you can move in and a supportive bra are a good idea. Check us out on instagram and vine with the hashtag #tsob or #torontoschoolofburlesque for some ideas!
What should I bring to class?
Attitude. A notebook and pen is sometimes a great idea for workshops. Specific items are listed in the class descriptions!
How old do I have to be? Am I too young? Too old?
If you're old enough to be in a bar, you are welcome here. If you're young enough to want to do it, you are welcome here.
I'm too fat. I'll do it when I lose weight.
Hell no you aren't. Marilyn Monroe was not a size 2, and even showgirls aren't 'perfect'. We teach you how to look like you are.
